Medical Care

As an Academy student, you have full access to the on-campus student health center. The Student Health Center offers a full range of medical services in primary and specialty care, counseling services, health promotion, disease prevention, and stress relief.

You can make an appointment to see a doctor if you are not feeling well, or visit the Acute Care Clinic for urgent, but not life-threatening, medical concerns. Specialty care and counseling services are also offered.

The Health Center does not have an Emergency Room, so please call for an ambulance or paramedic assistance (9-1-1) in case of an emergency.

Mandatory Immunizations and Screenings

The University of Southern California requires ALL international students receive:

  • 2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps & rubella) vaccine
  • Tuberculosis screening (blood test) Tspot or Quantiferon Gold
  • 2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine
  • Meningococcal: Menactra or Menveo, the most recent dose must be on or after your 16th birthday. This requirement is for students 21 years old and under.

USC Student Health recommends that all new students receive the required vaccines prior to start of their courses and upload all health/ immunization records into MySHR (https://studenthealth.usc.edu/ myshr/).

Frequently asked questions about immunizations are available in several languages: https://sites.usc.edu/new-student-health- requirements/immunizations/faq-multi-lingual/

PLEASE NOTE: Women who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant within one month of the workshop date should not receive the MMR vaccination. If you have questions about this, please consult the Health Center staff.

Health Insurance

International Academy students are insured by a plan through the USC Student Health Center during the term that they are enrolled. Health care services include doctor visits, information on health problems, allergy shots, minor surgery and X-rays, all of which are available to insured students.

The Student Health Insurance may have some small fees associated with seeing a doctor, such as fees for blood tests, immunizations, x-rays, and other tests.

See Insurance Benefit Summary.

Other Health Insurance Plans

The USC Insurance Plan is required for all students at the International Academy. Dependents not enrolled at the International Academy should all contact Aetna directly.

Plans purchased elsewhere will not waive you from your USC insurance requirement. As a result, we advise you not to purchase an insurance plan in your country or from other countries.
